Legal Digest
As all school administrators, board members, and school attorneys know, school law does not stand still. The value of the Legal Digest is that it provides the latest developments in the law to help administrators stay abreast of this rapidly changing field. It may even help administrators avoid costly legislation. The Legal Digest is published each month except July and December.
In its 25th year and averaging 20 pages per issue, the Legal Digest leads off with an in-depth article on a contemporary school law topic written by Texas attorneys and legal commentators.
Half of each issue is devoted to digests of the latest federal and state court rulings, commissioner decisions, special education hearing officer decisions, and attorney general opinions affecting Texas schools. This "Legal Developments" section provides a headnote summarizing key points for each entry, making it easy for readers to scan through the many reported cases, rulings, and opinions to locate those of particular interest.
Adding a dash of humor to each issue is Jim Walsh's "Law Dawg" column. Over the years, readers have followed the escapades of such characters as Rip Snort, Intrepid Reporter; JJ. "Mad Dog" Butts, assistant principal at Blusterville High School; and Fiorello "The Little Flower" Ventura, 18-year-old student drop-out and member of the Blusterville I.S.D. school board.
