This month’s recipient of Postscripts Fresh Ideas recognition goes to Eastside Memorial High School in the Austin Independent School District, the first winner of The Rather Prize. KXAN-TV reports that the high school was the recipient of a $10,000 grant established by former CBS News Anchor Dan Rather and his son, Martin Rather. The contest sought proposals for ideas to improve education. According to the report, Dr. Sanford Jeames, who coordinates the health science program at Eastside Memorial High School submitted the school’s proposal for the “STEP Up Challenge.” STEP, or Student Training and Enrichment Project, is designed to pair students with mentors who can provide real-world experience so that students can envision a future beyond their immediate neighborhoods. The winner was announced at this year’s SXSWedu.
