This month’s recipient of Postscripts Fresh Ideas recognition goes to the Texas Graduate Center based out of Mercedes, Texas for making it possible for six Rio Grande Valley Math teachers to earn their Master’s Degrees from Harvard University. According to a report by the Valley Morning Star, the Texas Graduate Center works to make available world-class distance learning graduate programs to local educators, with a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The Center partnered with local schools and the Region 1 Education Service Center and paid a third of the cost for the master’s programs for each participant. The three-year commitment involved distance learning and classwork at Harvard during the summer.
