EL PASO, Texas — A demographics and facilities study into the Ysleta Independent School District predicts YISD’s declining enrollment will slow down in the near future. YISD paid Templeton Demographics $70,000 to conduct the study after it was ordered in February to address consecutive years of declining enrollment in the district. YISD has lost 1,500 students over the last five years. Templeton’s report predicts YISD will lose 250 students over the next five years, a much slower pace than previous years. With approximately $6,400 in state funding tied to each student, that could mean an approximate loss of $1.6 million.
However, there was some good news in the study. It predicts the declining enrollment will eventually stabilize, and that over the next 10 years, YISD will gain 500 students…
